Dr. Nirmal Jayaseelan, affectionately known as “Dr. Jay” by his patients, grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University and, after a brief career as a systems engineer, pursued medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he graduated with Honors in Surgical Research.
He completed his General Surgery Residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, receiving training from renowned mentors such as Dr. Don Trunkey, a world-famous trauma surgeon; Dr. Lee Swanstrom, President of SAGES; and Dr. John Porter, editor of the Yearbook of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Jay is not only one of the nation’s most experienced bariatric surgeons—with over 11,000 weight loss operations performed—but he is also a SurgiCore surgeon and recognized as one of the top 5 surgeons in the nation. His practice is fully equipped to care for even the most complex bariatric patients.
